With more
than 2500 collector's pieces, this catalogue is the center
part of this auction. The medals and decorations alone include
more than 500 pieces, and right at the beginning attention
is drawn to the diamond-set Order of Military Merit belonging
to Czar Ferdinand I of Bulgaria (Euro 6,000). Offered for sale
for the first time is the Chinese Order in Commemoration of
Founding State in 18 K gold, to date only awarded 18 times
(Euro 2,500). King Kalakaua I of Hawaii, "the Happy Monarch",
during his reign after 1875 only awarded the order bearing
his name 38 times (Euro 4,200). Very few of the beautiful Grand
Cross of the Bavarian Order of Military Merit were ever awarded,
in this case the recipient was Prince Alfons of Bavaria, which
is confirmed by the accompanying citation (Euro 9,500). Finally,
once again we are able to offer a comprehensive Pour le Mérite
group , awarded to the Prussian Colonel Rudolf Teichmann.
Along with his Pour le Mérite with the citation comes
a whole additional row of his medals and decorations with
citations, all offered as one lot (Euro 6,000). The badge for
the military entourage of King Wilhelm II of Württemberg
1897/1918, is sure also worth mentioning (Euro 3,000).
Among the foreign military and historical objects, those
from the Napoleonic era always occupy a special place. The
portrait of General Guillaume Baron Vivies de la Prade, painted
around 1804, is especially impressive (Euro 4500).
Those who honour the Austrian Empress "Sisi" will
be pleased with some pieces from her possessions, especially
her golden bracelet with snail and grape leaf decoration (Euro
4,000). A group of objects from the possessions of the Dukes
of Leuchtenberg-Romanovsky are of special historical significance,
and the St.Anna's Cross 1st Class in Gold for around 1800
(Euro 8,000) and the personal seal of Czar Nicholas II in gold
and blood jasper are particularly desirable.
The special magic of the Bavarian Fairy Tale King, Ludwig
II, still has not lost any of its charm. An impressive example
is the ring with his diamond-set monogram, a gift to his nephew
Prince Alfons of Bavaria (Euro 9,500).
And we also have a few objects for those fascinated by the
last German Kaiser Wilhelm II. Along with a variety of imperial
table pieces such as a silver cover plate (Euro 1,500) and a
large silk damask table cloth for banquets (Euro 4,500), they
may also bid on Kaiser Wilhelm's personal summer suit with
hat and accessories (Euro 7,500).
There are uncountable legends around the person of Manfred
Baron von Richthofen, the "Red Baron", winner of
the Pour le Mérite and the most victorious fighter
pilot of the First World War. To our knowledge, this is the
first time that objects from his personal possessions are
offered at auction, including his golden signet ring (Euro 3,000),
a cigarette case given to him by Crown Prince Wilhelm (Euro
2,800), and as the high point, his silver honour goblet for
air victory (Euro 8,000). |
