A rare flintlock revolving musket from the gunroom of Franz Anton Count Sporck,

Bohemia, circa 1710/20. Two-stage barrel, octagonal then round with a slightly swamped muzzle. Smooth bore in 12.5 mm calibre. Revolving four-shot barrel group with release lever on the trigger guard. One pan cover with spring missing, another pan cover with spring an old replacement. Lock with finely engraved vine decoration, a richly engraved coat of arms of the Counts Sporck. Openwork, iron side plate, one lock screw missing. Walnut butt stock with iron furniture, front stock missing. Length 153.5 cm.
Extremely rare, early revolving musket in beautiful, untouched, original condition. Easily improved by cleaning and restoration.
Franz Anton Count Sporck (1662-1738) was amongst the wealthiest land owners in Bohemia, his enthusiasm for the hunt was legendary. This type of multi-shot rifle was constructed on his behalf and several examples were built by his personal gunmakers.
Similar revolving rifles from the gunroom of the Count Sporck could be found in the Henk Fisser collection and the collection of the Princes of Salm-Reifferscheidt.
