A Saxon etched war hammer,

circa 1570. Slightly curved, beak of quadrangular section, circular, slightly tapered hammerhead. Angular socket with a dovetailed belt hook on the side. Slender, tubular iron haft with a rectangular base. The grip with a strongly worn textile cover and studded with rivets, small rondel guard with a parrying hook on the side. Domed pommel plate. The haft and the head completely and finely etched with tendril decoration. Length 56.5 cm.
