An Ottoman silver-mounted yataghan,

dated 1794. Characteristically curved single-edged blade with a smith's mark struck on one side. Ferrule and grip of richly chased and engraved sheet silver. The overlay on the back of the blade missing. Lavishly worked silver scabbard (minor defects) richly decorated with vines, flowers, and trophies. A three-masted ship depicted at the locket with an inscription cartouche and date 1209 (=1794) on the opposite side. Length 77.5 cm.
