A very fine South German flintlock shotgun,

circa 1730/40. Round barrel with smooth bore in 14 mm calibre. At the breech and around the silver front sight chiselled décor against a golden background, depicting the standing goddess of the hunt Diana amid mascarons and tendrils. Lavishly cut lock with depictions of animals and mascarons. Full stock made from beautifully grained walnut with finely carved tendrils and rocailles. The stock with a break near the lock, the end of the forestock is a replacement, one replacement above the trigger, small defects and repairs to the edges of the forestock. High-quality, chiselled iron furniture underlaid with gold and displaying hunting-themed motifs. The openwork side plate with depiction of three dogs, on the trigger guard a lying stag. The butt cap showing dogs fighting a stag. The escutcheon has been removed and filled in with wood. Later wooden ramrod with horn tip. Length 135 cm.
Premium shotgun of royal quality that can be considerably improved by professional restoration of the wood damages.
