Lot Nr.4448

A sabre à la Mameluke for officers

of the 11th Hussars (Prince Albert's Own). Slightly curved back-blade with a pronounced spur on the back of the blade, etched on both sides, the obverse side showing the names of battlefields within scrolls, the monogram "TMJT" and a brass inlaid proof mark, and the reverse side a crowned regimental designation, the cipher "VR", and the maker's inscription, "Hawkes & Co London Manufacturers to the Queen", each lavishly framed with vine work. The brass cross-piece cast in relief and gilt, centrally charged with a silver sphinx. Ivory grip scales. Nickel-plated iron scabbard with mountings worked en suite. Attached sword-knot with minimal darkening. Length 97 cm.
