A German halberd
circa 1520 Long tapered spike, single-edged with a robust spine. The blade with slightly slanted leading edge, a robust rear fluke struck with a smith's mark on one side. Bevelled socket with four strong side straps. Original ash wood shaft (shortened). Length 189.5 cm. Rare and early type of halberd. A similar example depicted in John Waldman, Hafted Weapons in Medieval and Renaissance Europe, ill. 68a.
