A South German poleyn

circa 1550 - 1560
Poleyn for the left knee with a single articulation above and below, a small wing with turned and roped edge. Etched with bands of border scrollwork inhabited by grotesques and that on the principal plate involving a winged cherubic grotesque. The wing chipped at the rear terminal, the etching crisp and clear. Höhe 17.5 cm.
Provenance: The Royal Armoury, Madrid.
