A South German lobster-tailed burgonet (Zischägge)

circa 1630
One-piece skull embossed with six ribs radiating from a crown plate with ring finial. Riveted peak with turned edge and adjustable nasal bar bearing the stamped numeral "I". Neck-guard of four upward lapping cusped lames, pierced cheek-pieces. Original leathers, one cheek-piece attachment torn. Height 29 cm.
Beautiful, arsenal-maintained piece. A similar Zischägge was offered for sale in Hermann Historica's 58th auction (lot 500).
