A Nuremberg infantry breast plate

circa 1500 - 1510
Broad globose form, formed with pronounced outward angular turns at the neck and arms. Struck with the Nuremberg mark and pierced with lining holes(?) below the neck, and fitted with skirt of three lames, the lower replaced. Buckles replaced. Outer surface in very good condition. Height 50 cm.
Breastplates of this distinctive type are found in the Vienna Arsenal in the Historisches Museum der Stadt Wien. These probably were supplied from Nuremberg to the army of the Emperor Maximilian I in 1508 for the expedition against the Turks.
