A German Gothic breast-plate

circa 1470 - 1490
Two-piece construction, the two halves joined by a central bolt. The lower half formed with an outward flange, and the upper edges embossed with bands of three flutes to converge at the narrow central point. The upper plate embossed with tapering pairs of flutes about the arm recesses, with angular outward turns at the neck and arms. Fitted with skirt of three lames, the lower lame replaced. The outer surface with light pitting, the leathers and buckles replaced. Height 53 cm.
