A large incense bowl

Japan, Meiji period
A two-piece bowl of patinated bronze with partially polished details. The base in the form of a rocky landscape with applied leaves and pine branches. The globular body depicting an eagle in front of a waterfall on one side and a rain dragon in front of a vortex on the other. The edge of the fire dish with relief frieze and Kiku mons. The fire dish insert missing. Superb bronze casting with elaborate details. Height 60.5 cm.
