A large German strongbox

Rectangular sheet iron chest set with riveted bands. A false keyhole on the front with a richly embossed, decorative escutcheon, painted in colour. Hinged lid with a central keyhole. Key missing. Mechanism with nine latches, of which three are defective/incomplete. Elaborate openwork cover plate finished in colour with a two-headed eagle motif. Two hasps in front, and two moveable handles on the short sides. Dimensions 92 x 56.5 x 60.5 cm.
