A Roman officer's spatha,
2nd/3rd century A.D. Double-edged iron blade with a lenticular cross-section, bone or ivory quillons and mushroom pommel, and a bronze hemispherical top nut (loose). Total length 88 cm. Blade length 70.3 cm. Greatest width of the blade 47 mm. Good residual metal (conserved). For a similar hilt, cf.
