A rhinoceros horn
Africa, early 20th century Slender, beautifully formed horn from a black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) with a piece of hide from the animal's head. Removeable silver mounting with a decorative band of oak leaves in relief and two holes on the lower edge to fasten it to the former base plate. Mark of fineness "800". Length along the outer curve 50 cm. Weight 1500 g. Provenance: In the possession of a German family before 1920. CITES certificate available.
