A German hunting/sporting crossbow

circa 1720
Heavy iron prod with cord anchor. Original finery in various colours, damaged in places. Original woven bowstring. Slightly bellied walnut tiller with an age crack in the region of the prod anchor. Replacement brass bolt guide, iron nut. Original engraved brass bolt retainer. Folding iron peep sight. Double set trigger. Engraved brass trigger guard. Finely engraved bone inlays, some inlays are good replacements. A wind rose inlaid in bone and horn on the cheek. Dark horn butt plate. Length 74 cm.
