An English officer's sabre

1st quarter of the 19th century
Curved blade with broad fullers on both sides. Two thirds of the blade are etched, blued, and gilt with trophies amid scrollwork and decorative floral designs. Maker's inscription "Osborn and Gunby's Warranted"on the reverse side. Simple stirrup hilt. The languets, grip back plate, and pierced knuckle-bow display finely chiselled acanthus decoration. Ivory grip. Leather scabbard with engraved and gilded mountings. Blade stained in places. Gilding worn. The leather scabbard shows craquelure and has a small crack. Length 91 cm.
