An Illyrian helmet

6th century B.C.
Bronze Domed skull with a broad crest base distinctly offset by high, strongly contoured ridges. Large face cutout, brow with reinforcing ribs, cheek pieces with holes. Lightly flaring neck-guard, the perimeter of the helmet decorated with lentil-headed rivets (all rivets present!) under a raised reinforcement border. Height 23 cm. Weight 1000 g. Red brown patina, metallic surface in places. Axel Guttmann Collection (no inventory number). A richly furnished Illyrian helmet in a very fine state of preservation and with beautiful patina.
