A miniature portrait of a nobleman in oriental style

oil on ivory, early 19th century
Laterally signed "J. de Vivien". Outstanding, unusually richly detailed painted portrait of a red-bearded nobleman in a fur cape with a gold chain inset with precious stones. The turban is likewise set with precious stones and gold for the plume fitting. In a very beautiful, fire-gilt brass frame, the black plate set with screws. 132 x 114 mm.
An important work in the style of the French painter Joseph Vivien (1657 - 1734), master artist to the court of the Bavarian Elector Max Emanuel. Probably executed for a Russian or Polish nobleman, who in the style of the time wished to be portrayed in luxurious oriental raiment.
