A flintlock rifle,
Wiesbaden, end of the 17th century. Heavy, slightly swamped, octagonal barrel with an eight-groove rifled bore in 14 mm calibre, dovetailed brass front sight, and iron rear sight. Inscribed, "A WISBAD" above the breech. Chiselled (somewhat pitted) flintlock. Set trigger. Carved walnut full stock with a bone patch box engraved with hunting scenes. Cut iron furniture. Original ramrod with an iron tip and threaded shoe. Length 95 cm. Provenance: Christies/Düsseldorf, 20/21 March 1972. The sale of partial contents of a royal German armoury.
