A Saxon wheellock rifle,
middle of the 17th century. Lightly swamped octagonal barrel with a rifled bore in 14 mm calibre. Dovetailed iron sights, engraved brass inlays above the breech. Wheellock engraved with floral and hunting designs, and with a brass wheel cover and cock bridle. Set trigger and trigger guard with finger rests. Beautifully carved walnut full stock with patch box, inlays engraved with hunting designs, nailing, and ornamental brass wire inlay. Wooden ramrod with brass tip. Beautiful hunting weapon. Length 101 cm. Provenance: Hermann Historica 27th auction, lot 108.
