A large German anvil

16th/17th century
A large iron blacksmith's anvil with dark patina from age. A wide face with a short horn. Stepped base and a turned column set on the outside bearing two deeply stamped cross marks. Height 39 cm. Width 57 cm. Weight approx. 230 kg.
Rare, early anvil shape. See two similar pieces form the Otto Markès Collection, one dated "1460". Fischer/Lucerne, Auction December 2001, lots 597 and 598.
