A German flintlock rifle,
circa 1780. Two-stage barrel, octagonal then round with a seven groove rifled bore in 17 mm calibre. There is an inscription "Ein Rohr von feinen Dral" and the initials "IFS" inlaid in silver on top of the barrel. The maker's inscription, "Maegdesprung" is on the side of the chamber. Flintlock with slightly cambered lockplate and sliding safety. Walnut full stock with horn nose cap. There is an old addition to the forearm just behind the muzzle, and a small replacement just beneath the lock plate. Lightly engraved brass furniture. Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Length 127.5 cm.
