A German war chest painted in colour

2nd half of the 17th century
Rectangular iron trunk with flattened ball feet and riveted, crossed strap fittings. The lid has a covered central keyhole. On the front a false lock with an embossed keyhole cover and two hasps. Movable carrying handles on the sides. Original colour paint with vine decoration. The lock in the lid (ward missing) with ten latches worked over the corners. The open work, screw fastened lock cover is richly provided with curved bands (four of the ball-headed screws missing). The interior is lined with leather tapestry (heavily damaged in places). Iron, hollow shank key. Dimensions 60 x 34 x 40 cm.
