A chiselled and gold-inlaid Persian pesh kabz

circa 1800
Curved T-back blade of fine layers of wootz Damascus with fine thread grooves on the back. Chiselled floral ornamenation with gold-inlaid inscription cartouches at the base of the blade on both sides. Cut iron grip frame (somewhat worn) with remnants of gold inlay. Walrus ivory grip scales cracked on one side. Wooden scabbard covered with shagreen leather over cord decoration. Length 34 cm.
