A Caucasian khanjar with ivory grip

circa 1900
Blade of wootz Damascus, chiselled and inlaid with gold on both sides. The back of the blade with several fullers (made from the yelmen of a kilij). Ivory handle carved with floral ornaments. Silver scabbard chiselled with floral ornaments and decorated in niello on the obverse side. Blade and mouthpiece with old collection number "1943" in oilpaint. Length 46 cm.
