A Saxon boy's flintlock shotgun,
circa 1670/80. Long slender barrel, octagonal in the front half, then becoming round. Master's monogram "H S" on top of the chamber, with the Suhl hen on the side. Stamped floral ornamentation. Smooth bore in 11 mm calibre. Walnut stock in the style of a German wheellock rifle, beautifully decorated with engraved and blackened bone inlays, a leaping stag on the cheek piece. The bone patch box lid is decorated with a dog chasing a hare. The forearm is restored. Iron trigger guard with finger rests. Set trigger. Very good flintlock shotgun for a young aristocrat.
