A silver-mounted Ottoman double knife

circa 1720
Each has a single-edged blade of wootz Damascus with a shallow fuller on both sides. The grip mountings are of gilded silver with extremely fine engraved and embossed flowery vines. Bevelled intact crystalline walrus ivory grip scales. Wooden scabbard covered with silver-sewn, shagreen leather, and with long silver mountings worked en suite. Total length 36.5 cm.
Rare double knife of high quality workmanship from the period of the Turkish wars.
