A wheellock-carbine,

masterpiece of Hr. Humann, Ansbach, circa 1650. Octagonal barrel with slightly swamped muzzle. Eight-groove rifled bore in 15 mm calibre, dovetailed sights. Fine wheellock decorated with hunting scenes and monster heads, the cock with a small repair. The pierced wheelcover backed with brass. Set trigger. Walnut stock with patchbox and elaborate iron inlays. The butt stock bears a depicton of St.George slaying the dragon. The iron nose cap engraved "WILLS GOTT UND DAS GLICK SO SEI DAS M. MEISTERSTÜCK - HR. HUHMANN Z. ANSABCH" (If God and Fortune permits, this will be my Masterpiece - Hr. Huhmann in Ansbach). Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Excellent condition, except for the repair at the cock. Length 65 cm.
A gunsmith named Christian Humann, living in Ansbach is listed in "Der Neue Stöckel", probably a close relative.
