SAMMLUNG WEBLEY-REVOLVER

A cap-and-ball revolver Webley Mod. 1853 in a case,

cal..463 Perc., no. 116. Octagonal barrel, bore with 16 grooves and right-hand twist, length 6". 5-shot. On the left of frame below cylinder marked "P. WEBLEY PATENT No. 116". Barrel is connected to frame by a wedge which runs from the right through a countersinking in the front part of the base pin. It can be taken away from the pin which rests in the lower part of the frame. Cock with long spur. Breech block integrates rear sight and opening for hammer. Trigger guard with rest for middle finger.
Approx. 80 % of original blue-black brushed high gloss finish preserved, partially spotted, matt and in a brown patina. Left and right of frame additional Acanthus engravings. Hammer and trigger in the white. One-part dark brown walnut grip with very fine checkering and the diamonds lined up horizontally. Silver monogrammed plate on back strap. Pommel with integrated cap compartment which is locked by way of a spring-loaded hinged lid. Separate loading lever fixed by a bolt mounted at bottom left of frame. Revolver comes in later accessory oak wood case, dimensions 32 x 19 x 6 cm, inlaid in green felt with complete contents: loading lever, brass bullet mould, 14 lead bullets, powder flask, tin grease container, piston key and screwdriver.
This item is the oldest known Webley revolver after the patent of 1853. It is illustrated and described in detail by Bruce, Webley Revolvers, pp. 23 ff. and DWJ, mag. 11/2001, pp. 132 ff.
