A kulah khud

India, end of the 18th century
Round skull, forged in one piece, riveted base on top with a quadrangular spike. The calotte has chiselled floral decoration and fine gold inlays. There is a band running around the lower rim with silver inlaid inscription cartouches. Two plume sockets riveted on the front and a moveable, richly inlaid nasal. Attached aventail with iron and brass rings. Height 60 cm.
