A Swiss sword,
Switzerland, ca. 1500. Strong double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section with a crowned "Pi" mark struck in one side. Iron quillons slightly curved towards the pommel, the hardwood grip cover (worm-eaten, damage on the lower edge) underlain with brass sheet metal. Typical iron pommel. Length 82 cm. Rare type of Swiss sword, designed for both cut and thrust. There is a similar example among the possessions of the Swiss Landesmuseum (National Museum) in Zurich, illustrated by Hugo Schneider, Waffen im Schweizerischen Landesmuseum, Griffwaffen I (Weapons in the Swiss National Museum, Hilted Weapons I). No. 89.
