A provisional personal sword
for members of the Royal House of Hanover around 1840 t\t><\n>Version for Infantry or Cuirassier Guards officers with a very high quality single-edged Damascus blade with a shallow fuller and a narrow groove above it on both sides. Gilded brass knucklebow hilt and heart shaped guard plate (gilding is about 90 % intact). Grip cover is wrapped with fine twisted silver wire. Black leather scabbard with gilded locket, chape, and long suspension hook. Leather is slightly shrunken. Length: 103 cm. At the period, there was always a supply of especially high quality blades kept at the Marienburg, which could be used by the members of the House of Welf. The workmanship and quality of this weapon leaves no doubt that it was a personal sword belonging to one of the Welf princes.
