Hanseatic Brigade of the Free City of Hamburg

an infantry officer's saber around 1840
Curved Damascus blade with a Pandour point, half etched and partially blued and gilded with the Hamburg City coat of arms, floral decoration, and trophy bundles on both sides. Back of the blade is also etched with a vine pattern. Gilded knucklebow hilt, square languets. Ornamental back plate on the grip with a lion's head pommel. Grip covered with fishskin and wrapped with twisted copper wire. Scabbard of polished brass, two moveable suspension rings, and an iron chape. Length: 99 cm.
